SPAMALOT music with Brobdingnagian Bards
Monty Python's Spamalot is all the rage on Broadway and for good reason. It features the writing of Eric Idle and has many songs from the Monty Python movies, including one such favorite, "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."While I've not seen any legal free music downloads of the Broadway cast version, this performance of that Spamalot musical closer was quite successfully and hilariously executed by the Brobdingnagian Bards in their 2001 release A Faire To Remember.
The Brobdingnagian Bards (pronounced brAHb'ding-nAHg-EE-en) hail from Austin, Texas. They take traditional Irish and Scottish folk songs, mix it up with some Lord of the Rings music to create a unique brand of Celtic Filk. THE MAE SHI - music techno punk rap
The four band members from Germany recorded and mixed "Terrorbird" on four different computers. The result consists of eleven songs about the Old and New Testament, ten songs about the Terror Bird (a prehistoric, flightless, flesh eating bird found in parts of South America), three songs about vampires, two songs about werewolves, two songs about ergot poisoning in the Middle Ages, one song about shark evolution, one song about California, and one song about dolphins in the military.

BECK - Folk Preview of a Post-Punk Poet
Before "Loser" skyrocketed him into the pop-star stratosphere, Beck recorded this album of lo-fi tunes and ballads in the basement of K Records founder Calvin Johnson. This largely acoustic LP is a snapshot of the troubadour life Beck led when he was more likely to be found Dumpster-diving than predicting the Zeitgeist. The backwoods folk of "He's a Mighty Good Leader" and Delta blues of "Fourteen Rivers Fourteen Floods" shows past intent study of American traditional music, whereas the cynical critique of California culture voiced in "Cyanide Breath Mint" highlights the lyrical agility of a postpunk poet. In a tribute to the virtues of this album's simplicity, rocker Tom Petty covered "Asshole" with remarkable restraint, leaving the pleasures of the three-chord lament intact. PEGGY SEEGER member of the North American musical Seeger family, is a singer of traditional Anglo-American songs and activist songmaker. She plays six instruments: piano, guitar, 5-string banjo, Appalachian dulcimer, autoharp and English concertina. She has recorded 21 solo albums and participated directly in more than a hundred others. She lived in England for 35 years with singer/songmaker Ewan MacColl and has three children and seven grandchildren. She now lives in North Carolina, tours regularly worldwide and puts out a new CD every 18 months.

as-Mati is a little known group of players who relatively few people have seen. In fact, they pride themselves on being an "elusive/exclusive" group. They will occasionally do what is lovingly referred to as a "guerilla tour." That is, they'll go out, play a gig, tell no one, and be back safe in bed before the sun comes up. Did you see them at the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame? Case in point. The names are familiar to you -- George, Paul, John, Mick, and Ringo -- which really are their true names, and it was fate that brought these guys together in such a manner that they were destined to be a band (except that Ringo plays guitar, George drums, Paul sings and plays acoustic, Mick plays, well, Mick, and John plays bass) -- honest to God, it's the truth...John plays bass. Ok, so not so honest to God is that their real names are Walt, Todd, Bob, Mark and Even -- but everything else is true. That's our story and we're stickin' to it.

GREY DELISLE - Pyschedelic Folk cover Bohemian Rhaposdy from NPR
Leaving the June Carter Cash/Jolie Holland sonic template of her last album behind, Grey DeLisle has returned with a stylistically varied effort evoking everyone from Cat Power to Stephen Foster (she actually won a Grammy for her contribution to last year’s BEAUTIFUL DREAMER tribute album) to Willie Nelson to Tom Waits to Bright Eyes. “Joanna,” the second track features castanets, leaving the listener with a Phil Spector/Wall of Sound pleasant aftertaste. “Blue Heart” was recorded live with producer Marvin Etzioni’s teenaged son’s garage band in one take. “Right Now” features Marc Bolan-esque ray-gun guitar splashes. Combine all of that with dirty rockabilly (“Who Made You King”), a Rev. Charlie Jackson cover (“God’s Got It”) and the opening track—a reworking of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” (yes, you read that right)—to arrive at Grey’s distinctive take on Americana … edgy, dynamic, graceful, and eclectic.

FANCY TRASH music - Acoustic Indy Rock Downloads
Fancy Trash formed in August 2002 when Singer/Guitarist Dave Houghton moved from Boulder, CO to Northampton, MA and began playing with upright bassist Joshua Thayer. Not much later, drummer Ben Laine joined the group, his diverse and melodic rhythms completing an already earthy and developed sound. Fancy Trash works the line between rock and folk, blending a non-traditional sensibility with the tradition of acoustic instruments to make something unique. Spazzy folk-tinged acoustic indy rock.
Since cementing the lineup Fancy Trash has opened for national acts such as The Jayhawks, Hackensaw Boys and BR549, toured the Eastcoast and shared bills with notable regional acts like Drunk Stuntmen, Los Diablos and Spirithouse recording artists Ware River Club.
Fancy Trash released its first, self-titled album in August, 2003. The eleven-song effort was recorded by the band at their own Brave Tiger Studio
in Hadley, MA. They've started work on the follow-up.

DROPKICK MURPHYS - Punk Rock Free Music Downloads
Dropkick Murphys formed in 1996 in Boston, MA. The band was originally just a bunch of friends looking to play music for fun. We started playing in the basement of a friend's barbershop and our goal was to blend the musical influences we had grown up with (Punk Rock, Irish Folk, Rock, and Hardcore) into one loud, raucous, chaotic, and often out of tune mix that we could call our own.
